About Mathew
Mathew Howden represents domestic and international insurers, offering coverage advice and handling coverage litigation disputes. He advises on a wide range of policy types, including general liability, director and officer coverage, professional negligence, employment practices, automobile, property, and builders' risk products. Howden was called to the Ontario bar in 2019. He has built a strong record acting for insurers and policyholders across hundreds of complex disputes, appearing before all levels of the Ontario court system. Earlier in his career, Howden worked at a boutique firm specializing in insurance defence, eventually making partner, and then moved in-house as counsel to a national insurance company. His litigation experience covers coverage disputes, subrogation and recovery, allegations of fraud, and a variety of complex tort claims, including several forms of liability spanning premises, contractors, hospitality, motor vehicle, municipal, and product matters. He holds a law degree from the University of Victoria and a Bachelor of Arts from Dalhousie University.
