About Mark Josselyn

Mark Josselyn is a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office, and most of that work sits in employment, labour and equalities law, with insurance and professional liability as a second area of focus. Josselyn takes cases to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal, and appears before tribunals too, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario among them. Workplace investigations and mediation are part of the toolkit as well, backed by real training and experience in resolving conflict outside a courtroom.

Josselyn earned an LLB at Osgoode Hall Law School in 1981 and was called to the Ontario bar in 1983. A decade later, the lawyer was on the respondent's side at the Supreme Court of Canada in Queen v. Cognos, acting with Charles T. Hackland for Cognos Incorporated through Gowling, Strathy & Henderson.

Teaching runs through the career. Josselyn has lectured at the University of Ottawa and led trial advocacy seminars in the Bar Admission Course. Continuing education providers, the Law Society among them, have had papers from Josselyn, and so has Ottawa's yearly civil litigation conference. Clients and in-house teams get seminars too. Late in 2023, Josselyn sat on the panel of the employment group's year-in-review webinar, walking through fixed-term contract cases and the so-called 24-month cap.

Best Lawyers named Josselyn its 2023 Lawyer of the Year for labour and employment law in Ottawa, and the partner has been recognized in Best Lawyers since 2016.
