About Liam

Liam O'Connor is a partner who was called to the Bar in 1995 after completing his law degree at the University of Windsor in 1993, having earlier earned bachelor's degrees in English, Political Science and History from the University of Calgary. Over nearly thirty years of practice, he has built a reputation as one of Toronto's most successful criminal trial lawyers, defending more than forty jury trials to verdicts of no conviction and conducting hundreds of trial defences in the Superior Court and Ontario Court of Justice. He has defended more than forty murder cases and has represented alleged gang members, organized crime figures and dangerous offenders, taking on cases considered difficult or unpopular. His notable acquittals include a 2005 case involving charges of attempting to murder a Toronto police officer, a Hate Crimes defence the same year, and a 2003 trip to Thunder Bay to secure acquittals for a Hells Angels member accused of conspiring to kill two local businessmen. In 2016 he returned to Thunder Bay and won acquittals in a case tied to the city's largest-ever cocaine seizure.
