About Laura

Laura Scheim is a partner in Osler's Montréal office and a key member of the Tax Group. Her practice covers complex commercial and tax litigation, with an emphasis on corporate tax disputes and significant regulatory and administrative matters. She appears regularly before provincial and federal courts, including the Federal Court of Appeal and the Québec Court of Appeal, as well as before administrative tribunals and arbitrators, guiding Canadian and international corporations through tax reassessments and audits. Scheim's broader disputes work has included commercial matters tied to major infrastructure and public-private partnership projects. Before returning to private practice, she spent three years as legal counsel and in investment management at a publicly traded global legal finance firm, developing expertise in alternative fee arrangements, contingent risk assessment, after-the-event insurance, and litigation funding. She previously clerked for Justice Michael J. Moldaver at the Supreme Court of Canada and Justice Allan R. Hilton at the Québec Court of Appeal, and completed CPA Canada's In-Depth Tax Program. Scheim holds a B.C.L./LL.B. from McGill University, a Master's in Human Rights from the London School of Economics, and a B.A. from McGill.
