About Kristen

Kristen Bates is an associate at Gerrand Rath Johnson LLP practising criminal defence, family law, human rights, and employment law. Born and raised in Regina, she spent her first five years in private practice focused on family law and general litigation, then four years as a public defender with the Saskatchewan Legal Aid Commission representing clients with complex needs. Kristen has volunteered with Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan since law school and continues on the Saskatchewan Legal Aid Commission's Private Bar Panel. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Regina in 2012 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Saskatchewan in 2016, and was called to the Saskatchewan bar in 2017 after articling in Regina.
