Colin Rasmussen is a lawyer with Rasmussen Rasmussen & Charowsky Legal Professional Corporation, a member of the Law Society of Saskatchewan since 2004 and the California State Bar since 2008, and a registered U.S. Patent Attorney. His practice covers intellectual property, business corporations, administrative law, municipal law, and labour and employment, and although he is physically located in California, he works remotely with the firm's Saskatchewan-based team; his background in California conservatorship and guardianship law, combined with his technical and medical knowledge, has been valuable in preparing guardianship applications in Nunavut. Rasmussen began his career in the biological sciences, earning a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the University of British Columbia and a Ph.D. from Baylor College of Medicine, and held faculty positions at the University of Alberta (1991-1997), where he directed the National Cancer Institute's Molecular Mechanisms of Growth Control Group, and later at the University of Saskatchewan, researching intracellular signal transduction and authoring more than 20 peer-reviewed articles. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan College of Law in 2003 and subsequently worked as an associate at the Regina intellectual property firm Furman & Kallio, as an associate in the intellectual property group at Bennett Jones in Calgary, and as a scientific advisor in the intellectual property and media group at McDermott Will & Emery in Irvine, California. He also serves as CEO of LLVARE, a non-profit supporting research at the Loma Linda VA Hospital.
