About Koren

Koren Thomson is a partner at Stewart McKelvey's St. John's office, practising primarily in civil litigation with an emphasis on medical malpractice defence, privacy and access to information law, and class actions. She has built a litigation practice defending healthcare providers and institutions against malpractice claims and regularly advises public bodies on access to information and privacy compliance. Koren has appeared at all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and acted in cases such as Atlantic Lottery Corp. Inc. v. Babstock, the leading Supreme Court decision on waiver of tort in class actions, and Oleynik v. Memorial University of Newfoundland, which upheld a vexatious litigant declaration. She earned her LLB from the University of New Brunswick in 2010 and a BA with honours in International Relations from Mount Allison University. Koren was called to the Newfoundland and Labrador bar in 2011 and became a partner at Stewart McKelvey in 2018.
