About Joseph
Joseph Heap joined JSS Barristers as an articling student in 2020 and became an associate following his articles. His practice focuses on corporate commercial litigation, construction law, oil and gas litigation, and professional negligence claims, and his background in electrical engineering helps him navigate disputes involving complex technical issues. Before law school, Joseph spent five years working as an electrical and instrumentation field engineer in the oil sands in Fort McMurray, and he remains a registered Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary, achieving Dean's List standing and receiving the Margaret and Robert Montgomery Law Scholarship, and his Bachelor of Engineering in electrical engineering from the University of Victoria in 2012. Joseph has volunteered with Student Legal Assistance, a non-profit providing free legal help to students and low-income individuals.
