Construction LawJonathan Speigel is a founding partner of Speigel Nichols Fox LLP, where he leads the litigation and construction practices. He began his career as a sole practitioner handling real estate, leases and estates work before moving into litigation around 1987, giving him a solicitor's perspective that still shapes his advocacy. He has practised construction law since 1979 and has negotiated and drafted contracts worth up to $350 million for owners, subcontractors and consultants on public-private partnership projects. In 1996 he completed the Harvard mediation course and went on to mediate more than 200 disputes before winding down that part of his practice. He earned his J.D. from the University of Toronto in 1974, an M.A. in economics from Western University, and a B.Comm. from McGill, and he was called to the Ontario bar in 1976. He served as president of the Ontario Bar Association from 2003 to 2004.
