About John
John is a partner in the firm's Commercial Real Estate and Development Group and heads its Affordable and Social Housing Group, representing clients who acquire, dispose of, develop, and finance real estate. A former development executive, he served as General Counsel, Development, and acting Vice President, Development, for Toronto Community Housing, where he oversaw the organization's redevelopment mandate, including work at Regent Park, and dealt with private partners and the City on joint ventures and funding agreements. He was also CEO of the Batawa Development Corporation, which redeveloped the former Bata Shoe factory site. Drawing on 20 years in the housing sector, he founded the firm's Affordable and Social Housing Group and has represented Habitat for Humanity, Durham Region Non-Profit Housing Corporation, the City of Toronto, and private developers on affordable housing projects. John is active in the community as a former chair of the Laidlaw Foundation and the Daily Bread Food Bank, and he sits on real estate advisory committees for Dixon Hall and Blue Door. He was called to the Ontario bar in 1995 and holds an LL.B. from Dalhousie University and a B.Comm. from McGill University.
