Joe Fiorante, KC, is a founding member of CFM Lawyers and leads the firm's complex tort practice, including its aviation and product liability groups. His practice focuses on complex liability cases with an international dimension, including claims involving mid-air collisions, in-flight breakups, and catastrophic aircraft system failures. He chaired the Canadian Bar Association's Aviation Law section and served as the CBA's advisor to the Government of Canada in negotiating two international aviation treaties at ICAO. Joe currently represents the families of 20 passengers killed in the downing of UIA Flight 752 and previously acted for the family of a passenger killed in the downing of MH17, and his work on the Air France Flight 358 class action was described by the court as delivering 'real justice for real people.' He also represents victims in international human rights and corporate accountability claims, and his work on Nevsun Resources Ltd. v. Araya (2020) established that companies may be held accountable under customary international law for human rights violations. Outside the courtroom, Joe helped lead the pro bono 'Right the Wrong' campaign, which secured a $180 million fund for Canada's thalidomide survivors. He was named King's Counsel in 2011 and was called to the bar in British Columbia in 1989, and also holds bar admissions in the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, and Ontario.
