About Joe

Joe Battista is a founding partner of Murphy Battista LLP, alongside Joe Murphy, K.C. Before starting the firm in 1982, he worked as in-house counsel with the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee of British Columbia, looking after the interests of children and people with developmental or cognitive challenges. That experience showed him how often people and families are overwhelmed by the legal system, which led him to co-found a firm with an emphasis on clients' health and rehabilitation. Joe is a frequent speaker on brain injury, mental health and mental competency, and presented at the World Congress on Brain Injury in Italy in 2001. He earned his LLB from the UBC Faculty of Law in 1976 and was called to the British Columbia bar in 1977. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2009, now King's Counsel.
