About Jenna Kara

Jenna Kara is a Toronto litigator who takes on complex commercial disputes as an associate in Gowling WLG's Advocacy Group. Alongside commercial litigation, Jenna's areas of focus at the firm take in construction and engineering, real estate and commercial leasing.

Science came first. Jenna studied at Western University, earning an honours Bachelor of Medical Sciences and then a master's in medical biophysics with a molecular imaging focus, before heading to the University of Toronto for a JD. At law school, Jenna was co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Law and Equality, picked up a Rotman@Law certificate concentrating on accounting, finance and statistics, and was part of the team that won the finals of the 2020 Winkler Class Actions Moot.

Those student years also included work for survivors of sexual violence. Jenna interned with the Equality Effect and went to Kenya to research the gaps where sexual assault survivors drop out of the justice system, and also gave time to the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic, whose work is with people who've survived domestic assault. Today Jenna sits on the Equality Effect's Canadian board of directors; the non-profit is devoted to supporting African girls affected by sexual violence.

Closer to home, Jenna is a regular volunteer on Pro Bono Ontario's Free Legal Advice Hotline and an active member of the Momentum Committee in Toronto, the group charged with building and moving forward Gowling WLG's diversity, inclusion and equity strategy. Jenna also writes for the firm, with a 2023 piece on statutory accident benefits, and co-wrote the first two parts of the firm's 2024 series on climate change Charter litigation.
