Civil Litigation & Dispute ResolutionJeffrey Hartman is a partner and criminal defence lawyer who also heads the firm's civil practice group, focused on securing compensation for victims of state misconduct. Before joining Lockyer Zaduk Zeeh in 2023, he built a national reputation advocating for people seeking compensation from Canadian prison administrators, and he continues to maintain a criminal defence practice across the Greater Toronto Area and Southwest Ontario. His approach is shaped by his PhD research at Memorial University, supervised by Dr. Rose Ricciardelli, examining sentencing and imprisonment through fieldwork at Her Majesty's Penitentiary in St. John's. He was admitted to the Law Society of British Columbia in 2013 and the Law Society of Ontario in 2015, holds a B.A. in Law and an M.A. in Legal Studies from Carleton University, and earned his J.D. from the University of Victoria. He has appeared before provincial and superior courts across Canada, as well as the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada.
