About James
James is a litigator, negotiator, and general counsel for a number of First Nations, focusing on Aboriginal consultation and accommodation related to major resource projects. He has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia and the Federal Court of Canada, and before tribunals including the National Energy Board and the Specific Claims Tribunal. As a negotiator he has concluded major economic benefit agreements, forest and range agreements, BC Hydro agreements and specific claim settlements, and represents a Treaty 8 First Nation on a Treaty Land Entitlement claim. He won the Raymond Herbert Award for Best All-Round Graduating Student from UBC Law in 1999 and served as a judicial law clerk at the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of British Columbia. He earned his LL.B. from the University of British Columbia in 1998 and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2000.
