About Hyunju (Crystal) Park

Crystal Park is a Toronto deal lawyer, an associate at Gowling WLG whose work centres on M&A, private equity, corporate reorganizations and corporate finance. Clients are privately held companies, investors and strategic buyers. Some deals stay at home; others cross borders into the United States, the United Kingdom or Asia, with China and South Korea drawing the most attention. Crystal speaks English, Korean, Tagalog and Mandarin.

Crystal studied law in South Korea, Macau and Canada before joining the Ontario bar. An LLB at Yonsei University came first, then an LLM in international business law at the University of Macau and the Global Professional LLM at the University of Toronto. Earlier in Crystal's career came work as a category manager and legal consultant for a global company in the gaming and hospitality industry. The call to the Ontario bar followed in June 2023, after summer and articling terms that included training in litigation.

On a deal, Crystal can be there from the first structuring conversation through due diligence to the drafting and negotiation of the final documents. Share and asset purchases, reorganizations and strategic investments are regular work, and complex transactions spanning several jurisdictions are what interest Crystal most. Crystal also sits on the teaching team for the upper year Lawyer as Negotiator course at Osgoode Hall Law School.

Outside the office, Crystal sits on the board of the ITLNCA Networks Association and has volunteered with it since September 2020, drawn by a commitment to mentorship and access to justice and keen to create more opportunities for internationally trained lawyers. Crystal runs, skis through the winter and golfs in the summer, and recently set a goal of getting on the slopes twice a week.
