Civil Litigation & Dispute ResolutionThe Honourable David Orsborn is Counsel at Cox & Palmer's St. John's office, having rejoined his former firm Benson Buffett in 2021 after retiring from the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador. He and H. James Puddester, Q.C., founded Benson Buffett in 1981. Orsborn spent 27 years on the Supreme Court, including five years as Chief Justice, and brings a background as a Chartered Accountant and senior hospital administration executive to his current practice, which focuses on alternative dispute resolution and helping litigants settle claims without formal adjudication. He earned the Dalhousie University Medal in Law in 1979, graduating first in his class, and a Bachelor of Commerce from Memorial University. He has served on several commissions, including the Royal Commission on the Ocean Ranger Marine Disaster and the Royal Commission on the Donald Marshall, Jr. Prosecution.
