About Colm

Colm St. Roch Seviour, K.C., is a partner at Stewart McKelvey's St. John's office, practising in commercial, natural resources, environmental, and products liability litigation, with particular experience in mining, oil and gas, and hydroelectric development. He has litigated at all levels of court in Newfoundland and Labrador and before the Supreme Court of Canada, and has appeared before tribunals including the Oil & Gas Committee under the Atlantic Accord legislation. His notable matters include lead counsel roles in the Labrador Nickel Royalty mining case, described as the province's first hybrid electronic trial, and the successful Supreme Court of Canada appeal in Atlantic Lottery Corp. Inc. v. Babstock on waiver of tort in class actions. He also served as lead Newfoundland and Labrador counsel for Abitibi-Bowater Inc. in its 2009 NAFTA case against the Government of Canada. Colm earned his BA from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1979 and his LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1982. He was called to the Newfoundland and Labrador bar in 1983 and named King's Counsel in 2017.
