François Guay-Racine

About François Guay-Racine

François Guay-Racine is an Ottawa litigator at Gowling WLG who acts in civil and administrative cases connected to health law, professional liability and discipline, and also in language rights. Fluent in both English and French, François serves clients in whichever official language they prefer. On the malpractice side, François has helped get complex medical malpractice trials ready, some heard by a jury and some by a judge sitting alone.

François appears regularly in Ontario's courts and tribunals, including the Superior Court of Justice, the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. Since 2023, Best Lawyers in Canada has named François one of its Ones to Watch in health care law.

Called to the Ontario bar in 2019, François is an associate in the firm's Advocacy Department. François has worked for the House of Commons, the Library of Parliament and the Supreme Court of Canada, and took on internships with the Department of Justice and with AJEFO, the association of French-speaking jurists in Ontario. As a student, François also earned recognition for oral advocacy at the 2017 Charles Rousseau International Law Moot Court Competition.

Both of François's degrees come from the University of Ottawa, each awarded summa cum laude: a social sciences degree with honours in conflict studies and human rights, and then the faculty's bijural JD/LLL. A member of AJEFO, François was among the panelists at AJEFO's 2026 congress, its 46th edition, held in Burlington.
