About Fatima Zahra
Fatima Zahra is a Toronto associate with Gowling WLG, where Fatima practises as part of the firm's Advocacy Department and has been a member of the Ontario bar since 2020. Alongside partner Belinda A. Bain, Fatima has written about Ontario Court of Appeal rulings on when an insurer can end up obliged to defend and indemnify, and on the damages family members can recover under the Family Law Act.
Business came before law. Fatima earned an international BBA with honours at York University's Schulich School of Business in 2015, a program that included a term studying at IÉSEG School of Management in Lille, France. Several of those university summers were spent working at the Canada Revenue Agency.
Law school at the University of New Brunswick, finished with a JD in 2019, was full of practical experience. Fatima landed a judicial internship and spent a summer clerking for judges of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. UNB Law also chose Fatima as one of four students to compete for the school at the Canadian National Negotiation Competition, and the Fredericton Legal Advice Clinic got a great deal of Fatima's time, in the cause of making legal help reachable for people in the community.
