Wills, Estates & Trusts
Family LawEmma Ferguson is a Partner in the Wills, Estates and Trusts group, with a practice covering estate and incapacity planning tools such as alter ego and family trusts, powers of attorney and healthcare representation agreements. She helps clients with disabilities, or their family members, protect government disability benefits, and she advises on adult guardianship matters and applications to become committee for an incapacitated relative. Emma also guides clients through estate administration, including probate and letters of administration applications. Drawing on earlier experience in family law litigation, she now focuses much of her practice on drafting marriage and cohabitation agreements, often for clients with complicated financial or corporate holdings spanning multiple jurisdictions. She speaks frequently on wills, estates, trusts and family law topics, including for the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia and the Pacific Business and Law Institute. After law school, Emma clerked for the Supreme Court of British Columbia, working with six different justices, before practicing wills, estates, trusts and family law at an international firm prior to joining Alexander Holburn. She lives on Vancouver Island, commuting to Vancouver, and enjoys skiing and hiking with her husband, children and dog.
