About Emily

Emily Painter joined Kugler Kandestin in August 2022. She previously served as counsel at the Department of Justice Canada, assisting with international investigations and prosecutions of crimes against children, human trafficking, sexual assault and cyber-facilitated offences, and supported public consultations on an independent Miscarriages of Justice commission. During her studies at McGill, Painter volunteered with the Mobile Legal Clinic serving people in homeless shelters across Montreal and interned at Human Rights Watch in New York. Before law school she studied global development at Queen's University and worked as a peer educator in Salluit, Nunavik, developing health curricula for Inuit youth.
