Elizabeth Sale, a partner in Osler's Toronto office, advises banks, foreign-bank branches, captive finance companies, payday lenders, insurers, trust and loan companies, and payment-card and fintech businesses on the rules governing financial institutions and other financial-services providers. She has particular depth in consumer-protection and cost-of-borrowing law at the federal and provincial level, including how these rules apply online, and regularly counsels clients on retail-facing products. Elizabeth also assists vehicle and equipment lessors and financiers in drafting customer agreements and advises on motor-vehicle dealer regulation, debt collection, credit reporting, unclaimed property, and anti-money-laundering, anti-terrorism-financing, and sanctions compliance. She was seconded to the retail-banking division of a major Canadian bank in 2014.
