About Elad Gafni

Competition and antitrust law, together with foreign investment review (national security included), make up the bulk of Elad Gafni's practice as a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. Clients turn to Elad when the Competition Bureau asks them for information or documents, and for Investment Canada Act notifications and the reviews tied to them.

Elad puts a master's degree in economics, earned at the University of Toronto, to work on merger files. That sits alongside an honours economics degree from Queen's University and a cum laude law degree from the University of Ottawa. Called to the Ontario bar in 2010, Elad became a partner at Gowling WLG on January 1, 2023, one of 22 professionals who joined the partnership that day.

Elad works with clients, industry and trade associations among them, to build and roll out competition law compliance policies, and counsels on the Competition Act's civil and criminal provisions alike. In 2023 Elad and Ian Macdonald handled the competition side for the Gowling WLG team that advised ITM Isotope Technologies Munich SE on Actineer Inc., a new joint venture with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories to produce the medical isotope Actinium-225 at industrial scale.

Elad co-wrote the Canada chapter of Lexology's in-depth Intellectual Property and Antitrust guide with three Gowling WLG colleagues in June 2026, and was on the speaker list for Transparency International Canada's 2025 conference on inclusive service delivery in Africa. Earlier work goes back to a 2005 research report on how advanced technologies spread and take hold in Canada, written with Dr. Andrew Sharpe.
