About Michael
Michael Smith is a partner at LMS Lawyers practicing criminal, civil, and administrative law. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002 after graduating from the University of Manitoba, and holds a BA from the University of Western Ontario. He teaches criminal law as a professor at Carleton University, where he has taught for more than a decade. Michael competed in Greco-Roman wrestling for Canada's national team for six years and was lead counsel for Team Canada at major international games between 2002 and 2008. Since 2016 he has served as an Arbitrator on sport-related disputes, and in 2018 he was named to the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada's Investigations Unit as one of thirteen certified independent investigators handling sexual assault, harassment, and discrimination cases. He provides legal services in English and French.
