About Edward
Edward T. Fan is a partner at Torys who focuses on intellectual property law, helping companies acquire, enforce and make use of their IP assets across a range of industries. He co-leads the firm's Intellectual Property practice together with its Food and Drug Regulatory practice. His work includes advising on patent procurement and portfolio management, and negotiating and drafting IP, technology transfer, software and other technology-related agreements and licenses. He is a registered patent agent in both Canada and the United States, and a registered trademark agent in Canada. Edward previously served as an adjunct professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, where he helped develop and taught a course on commercializing intellectual property, and he continues to lecture to industry groups and professional organizations. Before becoming a lawyer, he worked as a certified DB2 database administrator and application developer. He belongs to the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
