About Darla
Darla Rettie is a legal advisor focused on commercial financing, business structuring, designing trusts, and documenting First Nation laws, working closely with Indigenous clients and their partners. Her practice addresses the body of law that applies to First Nations and their businesses, including the constitutionally protected right to consultation during project development and implementation. Darla brings an extensive business background to her legal work and is recognized as a teacher and speaker on commercial Aboriginal law topics. She was called to the Manitoba Bar in 2003 and earned her LL.B. from the University of Manitoba in 2002. Her matters have included business structuring and governance for major First Nations economic development projects, including the Wanipigow Sand Extraction Project and the building of Freedom Road for Shoal Lake No. 40 First Nation.
