About Cheryl

Cheryl Wiles Pooran is a human rights, labour and employment lawyer who leads PooranLaw's labour and employment team, serving people and social purpose organizations such as charities, not-for-profit organizations and social enterprises. She combines a Bay Street labour law background with sector-specific experience in collective bargaining, grievance mediation and arbitration, workplace investigations, and pay equity compliance, and advises clients on restructuring, mergers, and support-worker management issues. Prior to joining PooranLaw, she practised labour and employment law with a large international law firm and a boutique labour firm in Toronto, worked as a caseworker with Parkdale Community Legal Services, and interned with the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Terrorism in Geneva. She also teaches Human Rights and Health Law at York University. She holds an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School and a B.A. in Political Science from Acadia University.
