About Chanel
Chanel Carlson is of Red River Métis and European descent, raised in Winnipeg on Treaty 1 territory. Her practice at OKT centers on governance and child and family matters, including supporting First Nations as they develop their own child and family laws under their inherent jurisdiction. She also works on litigation and class actions, plus employment law, consultations, negotiation work and public inquiries. She holds a B.A. in Criminology from the University of Manitoba and a J.D. from the University of Ottawa, where she took part in the Indigenous Law Students Governance group. After law school she articled at a large Winnipeg firm, gaining experience across corporate, commercial, administrative and other areas before being called to the bar in Manitoba and Ontario.
