About Catherine Avrutin

Catherine Avrutin is a lawyer at Bennett Grant LLP who's growing a general civil litigation practice, with insurance litigation among Catherine's practice areas. Called to the Ontario bar in 2026, Catherine holds a BMSc (2022) and a JD (2025), both from Western University.

Long before the call, Catherine was learning to work with people in hard moments. As one of the very first volunteers with Western's Legal Information for Sexual Assault pilot program, Catherine spent two and a half years with it, and that work built the confidence to hear difficult disclosures from clients while helping them feel at ease. Helping run a service that filled a gap in the community was personally fulfilling, too.

Catherine articled with an insurance defence firm in Toronto before joining Bennett Grant. As an articling student, Catherine sometimes spoke with people who'd witnessed traumatic events.

Advocacy is part of the story as well: Catherine argued in the Gale Cup Competition and earned Western's 2024 W.R. Poole, QC Criminal Law Moot Award for that work. Off the clock, Catherine kayaks and reads non-fiction.
