About Carson Healey

Carson Healey is a Toronto employment lawyer whose practice centres on practical, strategic advice meant to keep working relationships sound over the long term. As an associate in Gowling WLG's Employment, Labour and Equalities Group, Carson handles both sides of the practice: contested workplace matters that end up in litigation, and the agreements and workplace policies that set the ground rules. Good employment relationships, in Carson's view, depend on communication that's clear, effective and early.

Carson's call to the Ontario bar came in 2022. At Western Law, Carson earned the Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP Award in Labour & Employment Law. Before joining Gowling WLG, Carson acted for both employers and employees at an employment law firm. One of those files was Shabbir v. Gigg Express Inc., where Carson represented a young employee with short service and secured unpaid overtime along with an enhanced entitlement to reasonable notice. As an associate at Whitten & Lublin, Carson assisted employer clients in all areas of workplace law.

Carson is fluent in four languages, English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, and is always setting out to learn more. Reporters turn to Carson on workplace questions too. There have been appearances on CP24 and CTV News, and Carson has been quoted several times in Canadian HR Reporter, including a November 2025 piece on a decision about notice for short-tenured staff. The takeaway Carson offered employers there was simple: review your contracts every year, because courts keep striking down wording once treated as enforceable.

Giving back matters to Carson. Carson volunteers regularly on the Free Legal Advice Hotline run by Pro Bono Ontario and made its Access to Justice Honour Roll in both 2025 and 2026. While at Whitten & Lublin, Carson also worked with the Canadian Colombian Professional Association, a commitment tied to a belief in diversity, inclusion and community.
