About Benjamin Na

Benjamin Na is a Toronto litigator at Gowling WLG and chairs the firm's Disputes Department, steering its Canadian commercial litigation and construction litigation groups while also sitting on the National Management Committee. Benjamin's clients are public and private corporations, financial institutions and regulators, and the work pairs a broad commercial disputes practice with advice to directors and officers.

Benjamin earned an LLB at Osgoode Hall Law School and was called to the Ontario bar in 1998. By 2022 Benjamin had been with Gowling WLG for more than two decades, having led the Toronto office's Advocacy Department and served on that office's Management Committee. Benjamin was then elected managing partner of the Toronto office and held the role from 2022 to 2025. In 2022, Canadian Lawyer named Benjamin to its Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in the Business category. Benjamin has also worked as senior counsel at a Canadian financial institution, supporting its business groups and handling business and reputational risk.

In court, Benjamin's experience reaches every level of Ontario's courts and the Federal Court, and south of the border the US District Court and US Bankruptcy Court. Administrative tribunals and private arbitrations are part of the mix too. Teaching is part of the picture too: lawyers and clients have attended Benjamin's CPD seminars, and Benjamin has been an instructor in the Law Society of Ontario's Bar Admission Course and the Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop.

Benjamin's work also reaches into Asia. In 2023 Benjamin and Frank Sur co-led Gowling WLG's South Korea Country Desk, and on a trip to Seoul they talked with the Korea Herald about opportunities between the two countries in sectors like tech, critical minerals and real estate. By 2025 Benjamin was leading the firm's Asian Sales Initiative and moderated an installment of the firm's webinar series on expanding into Asian markets, with speakers from Japan's embassy in Canada and Canada's embassies to China and Korea. Benjamin also belongs to the Korean Canadian Lawyers Association and the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers.
