About Alison
Alison Hopkins is a founding partner at Summit Law LLP who splits her practice between Ontario and British Columbia, giving her particular experience with interjurisdictional matters. For over ten years her practice has focused exclusively on insurance defence litigation, acting as counsel in casualty claims arising from auto and occupier's liability matters, accident benefits, commercial general liability, and property loss. She represents clients before the superior courts and courts of appeal in both provinces as well as in tribunal proceedings, and began her career at a large national law firm. She earned her J.D. from Dalhousie University in 2010 and a B.A. (Hons.) from Carleton University in 2005, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2011 and the British Columbia Bar in 2012. Early in her career she worked as a visiting lawyer at the Legal Resources Centre in Durban, South Africa, focusing on constitutional test case litigation involving health access and education. She serves on the board of the Canadian Defence Lawyers Association and is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and the Law Society of Ontario.
