Brownlee LLP is a mid-sized, regional law firm based in Edmonton, with additional offices in Calgary, Regina, and Vancouver. Its founding traces to 1935, when John E. Brownlee, Alberta's fifth premier, re-established a law practice in Edmonton after leaving public office. Brownlee had studied law at the University of Toronto, articled in Calgary starting in 1909, and served as Alberta's attorney general from 1921 to 1925 before becoming premier from 1925 to 1934. As premier, Brownlee negotiated the transfer of natural resources from federal to provincial ownership, an event the firm credits with shaping the level of prosperity Albertans enjoy today.

Today Brownlee LLP has grown to more than 80 lawyers serving clients across Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut, and the Northwest Territories. Its core practice areas are civil litigation, municipal and administrative law, corporate-commercial law, and employment and labour law, along with privacy work. The firm has represented municipalities, school boards, and private entities in disputes including a school district's slip and fall defence that was dismissed by the Alberta Court of King's Bench, the Alberta Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. Its Vancouver office, the firm's first location in British Columbia, provides litigation counsel in insurance coverage, indemnification, construction, professional negligence, and personal injury, a service it says it has offered for more than 60 years.
