About Waldman & Associates

Waldman & Associates is an immigration and refugee law firm on Eglinton Avenue East in midtown Toronto. Lorne Waldman started the practice in 1979 and has worked exclusively in immigration and refugee law ever since. The firm now operates as Lorne Waldman Professional Corporation, with four partners, three associate lawyers, and a support staff of legal assistants and an accounts manager. It handles applications for permanent residence, citizenship matters, business immigration, and hearings before the Federal Court and the Immigration and Refugee Board, and it takes on files referred by other immigration lawyers and consultants when a case gets complicated.

Waldman has argued cases at the Supreme Court of Canada, including a successful appeal in Pushpanathan v. Canada, and acted as counsel for the Senate of the Republic of Italy when it intervened in United States of America v. Burns, an extradition case involving the death penalty. Waldman was also co-counsel for Maher Arar at the Commission of Inquiry into Arar's deportation to Syria, and was one of four class counsel in Rasolzadeh, a class action that forced the federal government to rescind retroactive changes to skilled worker regulations, benefiting more than 100,000 applicants.

Staff at the firm speak Spanish, French, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Russian, Japanese, and Ukrainian, and the team is experienced working with interpreters. The firm represents clients across Canada and internationally, not only in the Toronto area.
