Chris Reed founded the firm in 2000 after five years as a partner at a mid-size Bay Street firm, and was called to the Ontario bar in 1988. The practice covers a broad range of commercial disputes, including shareholder and estate litigation, insolvency and creditors' rights, real estate litigation, condominium governance matters, and tax administration and enforcement work.
Founding partner Russell Laishley concentrates on tax administration and enforcement, working with clients on Canada Revenue Agency and Ontario tax authority audits, appeals, Voluntary Disclosure applications, and cases before the Tax Court of Canada. By appointmentLaishley Reed LLP's office is at 3 Church Street, a heritage office building in Toronto. Built in 1914, it features red brickwork with stone detailing and wood columns and beams, and it's designated under the Ontario Heritage Act within the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Heritage Conservation District. The site's history goes back further than the building itself. When York was first laid out in 1793, this stretch of Church Street sat at the edge of Toronto Bay, and the area served as a warehouse and dock district through much of the 1800s before the current building went up. The building sits in a downtown block that has been continuously commercial for well over a century.
