About Metallic Law

Metallic Law is an Indigenous law firm established in 2020 and based in the community of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation in Ontario. It was founded by Candice S. Metallic, a citizen of the Listuguj Mi'gmaq Nation who was called to the bar in British Columbia in 1997 and in Ontario in 2006. Before starting the firm, Metallic represented Indigenous clients at the Aboriginal Justice Clinic in Vancouver, worked as an associate at Blake, Cassels & Graydon on constitutional litigation including the Delgamuukw case, and served as legal counsel to the Indian Claims Commission and the Assembly of First Nations.

The firm practices exclusively in Indigenous law, focusing on specific claims, self-determination and governance, economic reconciliation, and human rights for First Nations, Metis, and Inuit clients across Canada. Founder Candice Metallic's own practice centers on assisting First Nations with governance and economic capacity, negotiating land claims and natural resource and revenue sharing agreements, and treaty implementation, along with advising on consultation, accommodation, fisheries, and citizenship matters. Metallic Law describes its approach around the concept of Apigsituagan, which it translates as making things right, and says the firm draws on well over 20 years of experience.
