Wishart Law Firm LLP is a law firm based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, with roots going back to 1900, when brothers Moses and Uriah McFadden opened a practice at the corner of Brock and Queen Street. The firm took the Wishart name in 1939, after Arthur Wishart joined what had become McMillan and McMillan, and it's carried on as Wishart Law Firm, later Wishart Law Firm LLP, ever since. Paul Cassan, Steven Shoemaker and Matthew Shoemaker became partners in 2021 and lead the firm today.
The firm's practice covers corporate and commercial law, civil and commercial litigation, residential and commercial real estate, municipal law, employment law, wills and estates, insurance law, environmental law, personal injury, intellectual property and privacy law, and it also advises municipalities on tax arrears collection. Arthur Wishart went on to serve as an alderman in Sault Ste. Marie, was elected to the Ontario legislature in 1963, was later appointed Attorney General of Ontario, and was made a member of the Order of Canada in 1978. Over its history, the firm has produced seven judges, including two of the McFadden brothers who founded it.
