About Tyler Hortie

Tyler Hortie leads Cohen Highley's Real Estate, Wills and Estates Group and runs the firm's Kitchener office. On any given week that can mean a home purchase or sale, a commercial lease that needs negotiating, a new estate plan, or an executor who needs help settling an estate. People launching a business come to Tyler too.

The path to law ran through business school. Born in Ottawa and raised in Uxbridge, Tyler left home for Western University in 1999, finished an Honours Business Administration with distinction at the Richard Ivey School of Business, and then earned an LLB with a focus on tax law. During those law school years Tyler directed Sport Solution, which gives Canada's amateur athletes legal help at no charge. Tyler was called to the bar in 2007.

The files range widely in size. Tyler recently closed a client's acquisition of an entire portfolio of apartment buildings, and finds planning estates for parents of children with disabilities, advising small and mid-sized companies, and guiding executors through a complicated administration every bit as rewarding. Since the practice spans corporate, real estate and estate planning work, a client can get advice that pulls all three together.

Tyler likes working with people and making connections, and wants to be the advisor clients and their businesses turn to. Away from the office it's all about family: with kids in competitive dance, soccer and theatre, Tyler cheerfully plays chauffeur, cheerleader and sponsor for whatever they take on next.
