The Honourable Marshall Rothstein, C.C., K.C., is a partner in Osler's Vancouver office who lends his expertise across the firm. He served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada from 2006 until stepping down from the bench in 2015, capping more than 50 years in the judiciary and legal practice. Marshall has written over 100 judgments and arbitral rulings on domestic and cross-border commercial disputes, and his current practice touches on dispute resolution matters involving mergers and acquisitions, tax, competition, intellectual property, and the transportation and energy sectors. Born in Winnipeg, he studied at the University of Manitoba and was admitted to the Manitoba Bar in 1966, working as a civil litigator in private practice before being appointed King's Counsel in 1979. He joined the Trial Division of the Federal Court of Canada in 1992, moved to the Federal Court of Appeal in 1999, and was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada in 2006, and in 2017 he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada.
