About Ted J. Dreyer

Construction disputes are at the core of Ted J. Dreyer's practice in Kitchener: claims over liens, trusts, delays and deficiencies, and disagreements over contracts. Ted also takes on insurance work, from coverage fights and defence files to building code claims, and defends municipalities facing liability claims.

Ted came to Bennett Grant LLP as counsel in 2025. Before that, Ted practised at Madorin, Snyder LLP in Kitchener, where Ted was a partner by 2019 and spent time explaining Ontario's new prompt payment and adjudication rules to construction industry audiences.

Ted's involvement with the Council of Ontario Construction Associations (COCA) began when the province launched its review of the old Construction Lien Act: COCA formed a task force to answer the reviewers' questions and prepare submissions, and Ted, then sitting on the Grand Valley Construction Association board, was asked to lead it. After the new Construction Act arrived, getting the word out to members about the changed rules turned into a big job of its own, and Ted was heavily involved in it. At COCA's annual general meeting in February 2024, Ted was elected chair for a three-year term.

Ted also resolves construction disputes as a neutral. ODACC has certified Ted as an adjudicator under the Construction Act, ADRIC has designated Ted a Qualified Mediator (Q.Med), and Ted's mediation work is limited to construction cases. Once appointed to an adjudication, Ted usually brings both sides together for an early meeting within a couple of days to work out how the process will run and what it'll cost.
