About Tasha

Tasha Paramalingam is a partner who supports Indigenous Nations in advancing self-determination through engagement with governments, proponents and the courts. That work has included modern treaty negotiation and implementation, legislative co-development, and land use planning, and has helped secure agreements with proponents that protect First Nations' free, prior and informed consent before development proceeds on their lands. Tasha has also assisted Nations in developing their own laws and policies to manage their lands and futures. As a litigator, Tasha has worked on cases involving the interpretation of core treaty promises and has supported Elders and community leaders in presenting these issues to the courts. Tasha's approach is informed by two decades of advocacy for the Tamil Nation, including as founding director of a not-for-profit human rights organization. Tasha holds a J.D. from Yale Law School and a B.A. from Georgetown University, and is admitted to practice in New York, Ontario, Washington and Yukon.
