About Steven

Steven (Steve) Shafir, KC, is a partner focused on debt recovery and realization for financial institutions and other creditors, with a record before the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of King's Bench, the Alberta Court of Appeal and the Nunavut Court of Justice. He has also acted for victims of terrorist attacks, assisting families in obtaining judgment and restitution against terrorist entities and their financiers. Steve earned his LLB from the University of Alberta in 2004 and was admitted to the Alberta bar in 2005 and the Nunavut bar in 2009, and was appointed King's Counsel in 2022. He has taught foreclosures and collections courses for the Legal Education Society of Alberta and assisted in designing the Court of King's Bench's Justice Digital electronic filing system. Away from work, Steve serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Canada's Centre for Israel & Jewish Affairs and Past President of the Jewish Federation of Edmonton.
