Stephen A. Pike is a partner in Gowling WLG's Toronto office, where Pike co-leads the firm's Canadian ESG Advisory Services practice. A big part of the work is helping businesses and investors in Canada and the U.S. deal with the risk that forced labour or child labour turns up in their operations or supply chains. Canadian, American and global companies also bring Pike their governance, transactional, operational and risk management questions, from regulatory compliance and product distribution to product liability.

Pike's legal career began with an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1983 and a call to the Ontario bar in 1985, after a BA Hons. at York University's Glendon College. In 2015 Pike added the ICD.D designation, finishing the Directors Education Program that the Institute of Corporate Directors runs with the Rotman School of Management.

Parliament has twice asked for this lawyer's views on supply chains. In March 2022, appearing as an individual, Pike gave evidence to the Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights on Bill S-211, the bill that's now Canada's Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act. Then in December 2025 the House of Commons Standing Committee on International Trade called Pike as an expert witness, this time on imports tied to forced labour and what that means for supply chains in Canada.

Outside client work, Pike co-edited the American Bar Association's ESG in the Boardroom: A Guidebook for Directors and hosted the ABA Business Law Section podcast series of the same name. Directors and CEOs can also follow a continuing series, now past 20 parts, on tackling modern slavery in Canadian businesses. You'll often find Pike on a speaking program too, with past audiences including the Ontario Bar Association, PDAC and the National Association of Corporate Directors.
