Indigenous LawStephanie Hewson's practice centers on environmental law, with particular expertise in marine and fisheries law, Aboriginal law, and constitutional law, covering environmental impact assessments, fisheries matters, First Nations governance drafting, specific claims negotiations, impact benefit agreements, and challenges to resource development permits. Before joining Woodward & Company in 2026, she worked at West Coast Environmental Law and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, developing expertise in environmental and natural resource governance and regulatory and law-making processes at both provincial and federal levels, and serves as a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law's Ocean Law Group. She holds an arts and science degree from McMaster University, graduating summa cum laude, and a law degree from McGill University's Faculty of Law, where she was named to the Dean's Honour List, and was called to the bar in both British Columbia and Ontario in 2017. After eight years on Canada's west coast, she relocated to Ontario to join the firm's Toronto office, and is the author of Protecting the Coast and Ocean: A Guide to Marine Conservation Law in British Columbia (UBC Press, 2023).
