About Shafik
Shafik Bhalloo, born in Tanzania, served as a Kornfeld LLP partner from 2000 to 2016 and continues as legal counsel. Since May 2016 he has held appointments as Professor of Practice and Academic Director at Simon Fraser University's Beedie School of Business, teaching commercial law, business ethics, and employment law. His legal practice covers corporate commercial litigation, including multiparty commercial, corporate, and securities cases, and labour and employment law, including grievances, collective bargaining, certification applications, and employment terminations. He is certified in mediation and appears before the Labour Relations Board and the British Columbia Supreme Court. He holds an LLB from the University of British Columbia, an LLM in e-Business from Osgoode Hall Law School, and a BA (Hons.) from Simon Fraser University, was called to the bar in 1990, and was appointed King's Counsel in 2023. He has received the TD Canada Trust Distinguished Teaching Award three times (2013, 2018, 2024) and serves on the West Vancouver Police Board.
