About Sean M. Sullivan

Sean M. Sullivan is a commercial litigator who leads Gowling WLG's Waterloo Region office as its managing partner. The practice puts special weight on estate disputes, alongside shareholder fights, contract and product liability claims, and recovery files. Sean's clients include private companies, large and small, as well as banks and insurers.

Sean was called to the Ontario bar in 2002 and started that year as an associate at Gowling Lafleur Henderson, becoming a partner there in 2012. Sean has also led the Waterloo Region office's Advocacy Department. On January 1, 2024, Sean took over as the office's managing partner from Bryce Kraeker, who'd finished two four-year terms in the role.

In court, Sean has argued at every level in Ontario, the Court of Appeal included, and has acted as counsel on trials, applications and motions in the Superior Court of Justice. Sean's also built a reputation for cases involving the oppression remedy.

Before law school at the University of Ottawa, Sean studied history at the University of Guelph, earning an honours BA and then a master's degree. Outside the practice, Sean is active as a volunteer in the Kitchener-Waterloo community and has taken on leadership roles in that work. Waterloo Region Police Services honoured Sean with a Civilian Award in 2017 for contributions to the community.
