Reshika Dhir helps inventors and technology businesses secure patent protection, and as a principal in Smart & Biggar's Toronto office, Dhir leads the firm's Patents: Electrical and Computer Technologies practice group. Registration as a patent agent in both Canada and the United States means Dhir can act before CIPO and also represent Canadian companies and entrepreneurs at the USPTO.

Drafting patent applications and steering them through examination has been Dhir's work for over a decade. Files have covered telecommunications, medical devices, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, among many other fields. Clients also come for patentability and infringement opinions, freedom-to-operate reviews, help enforcing their rights, and advice on using industrial design registrations to protect how a product or its packaging looks.

Engineering came first. Dhir earned an electrical engineering degree at Queen's University in 2008, taking the Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation Medal for the highest marks in that engineering class, and has hands-on industry experience in the semiconductor and nuclear sectors. A J.D. from Osgoode Hall followed in 2011, along with a win at the Mathews Dinsdale & Clark Canadian Labour Arbitration Competition, and the Ontario call came in 2012. By 2023 Dhir was a partner at the Toronto IP firm Bereskin & Parr.

Teaching is a big part of the picture. Dhir's a guest speaker at Canadian law schools, including Osgoode's IP Intensive patent prosecution seminars and talks on AI and patents at Western, and mentors at innovation centres across Canada. A 2023 IP strategy bootcamp talk at VentureLAB is among the sessions on record. In an April 2026 op-ed for TheFutureEconomy.ca, Dhir warned that Canada could end up feeding other economies instead of owning the value of its own ideas.
