Business & Corporate LawPeter Cullen joined Brisset Bishop as Senior Counsel in 2023, after 32 years as a partner at a leading national commercial firm, where Cullen chaired the firm's national Risk Management Committee and served on its national Professional and Ethics Committee. Cullen represents domestic and foreign shipping interests in transactions including shipbuilding, major conversions, sale and purchase, and contracts of carriage, as well as dispute resolution matters, and also advises financial institutions and marine insurers, including Lloyd's and other London, European and Asian markets. Cullen's practice extends to commercial insurance matters such as D&O, energy, liability, property and coverage disputes, and Cullen appears before the Federal Court, Quebec and Ontario superior and appellate courts, and arbitration and administrative panels, and also acts as a mediator and arbitrator in commercial and shipping disputes. Cullen is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a former member of the Canadian Bar Association's council, and an Honorary Life Member and past president (2003-2005) of the Canadian Maritime Law Association. Cullen was called to the Quebec Bar in 1981 and the Ontario Bar in 1990, holds a B.A. from the University of New Brunswick, a B.C.L. and JD/LL.B. from McGill University, and a Diploma in International Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (2017). Cullen has been recognized in Chambers Canada, the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, The Legal 500 Canada and The Best Lawyers in Canada for transportation and shipping law.
