Olivia Lifman is an associate in Gowling WLG's Toronto office and part of the firm's Business Law Department. Private M&A sits at the centre of the work, along with corporate reorganizations and complex commercial agreements, for clients based in Canada and abroad. Lifman's sector experience takes in insurance, media, alcohol, and food and beverage, among others, and the aim on every file is clear, practical advice that serves the client's business goals.

Lifman's name turns up on a long run of Gowling WLG deal teams. In 2019 that meant the corporate/M&A side of Cummins' acquisition of Hydrogenics and of Tree of Life Canada's purchase of Numage Trading, an importer and distributor of Italian specialty foods, plus a financing for Khiron the same year. Later files include the 2021 negotiation of an investment management agreement between the Alberta Teachers' Retirement Fund and AIMCo, and Canadian Dental Services Corporation's 2024 acquisition of Davis Orthodontics.

The route into law wasn't a straight line. Lifman earned a BA with first class honours in English literature and international relations at McGill, then an M.Phil. in modern and contemporary English literature at Cambridge, before finishing a JD at the University of Toronto and being called to the Ontario bar in 2018.

Lifman has also written for the firm, co-authoring a 2018 piece with Belinda A. Bain on Rowan's Law, Ontario's concussion safety legislation, and writing a 2020 roundup of Canadian financial regulatory updates. That same year, Lifman added an Osgoode certificate focused on compliance and legal risk for financial institutions.
